13 May 2012 MN Zoo!

2012-05-13

For Mother’s Day, we went to the MN Zoo with Grandma, Auntie Kristen, & Auntie Kari!

The animals were fun from far away, like the fishies, bear, camels, prairie dogs, moose, & caribou, but the sheep & goats were a little scary because they came up so close.  So did the penguin that swam right up to Abby’s face.

Abby also got to share some ice cream with Auntie Kristen & Mommy.

After picking out a toy [a sea otter], Abby was so exhausted & fell asleep for the MN trail & Tropics trail.

11 Apr 2012 Happy Easter! Love, Abby.

1. Read more books & Bible stories to Abby, now that she’s a little older & kind of understands words.

I was reading a page or two a day (average) from her Bible storybook, along with another book or so up until the last week or so…need to get back on that one.

2. Update the blog every 2 weeks, minimum.

Didn’t do so well on that in February.  Oops.

3. Sew a thing. Going for a quilt, but completing any one project will satisfy this goal. Other than a fabric flower, that is, since those take about 5 minutes and I do by hand. I also saw a really cute tree skirt on a blog I read which I’d like to attempt too.

Abby’s quilt is in process.  I need to finish the actual quilting & binding.  & I’m planning on making a matching pillow  [pillows?] with some of the fabric that did not make it onto the quilt.  Also, I pinned lots of crafty sew-y things on pinterest.  So there’s that.

4. Read all the books I got for my birthday & Christmas this year:

Reading = fail this month…still halfway through approximately ALL THE BOOKS.

5. Catch up on at least 1 TV series [some options: Chuck, House, Bones, HIMYM.]

I caught up on HIMYM while on PTO, so I’m up to the current season, so this is officially complete!  Also, I’m halfway through re-watching Charmed, if that counts.  We’ll see, maybe I’ll see if I can knock off another show or two [I’m looking at you, Bones].

6. Clean & purge, room by room [including closets].

I’m going to consider this completed, as I got through all the things I really wanted to.  I still have one bag to take to Goodwill [after the 3 bags + 1 AE box I took on PTO!].  I do still need to figure out a way to store/display/document Abby’s artwork & pictures from school.

7. Play more Wii Fit + go for walks with Abby this spring/summer/fall. That is my version of working out.

I weighed myself on the balance board in January & went for walks during my PTO [Bones was very happy to be loved again].

8. Keep up-to-date with photobooks &/or scrapbooks for Abby.

N/A right now since we’re only 2 months into 2012.

9. Bake more things [use the fun chocolate, etc. chips I liberated from the chocolate, etc. chip collection at Dave & Karen’s house!]

Still need to do this.  I watched Food Network all day on Sunday, February 12 [chocolate weekend!].  I also made muffins to celebrate having a kitchen island.  I’m so domestic.

10. Think of a 10th item for this list. Play with our camera & learn more about all the fun things it does + learn more about photo-editing.

I got Photoshop & have been having fun with the PW [Pioneer Woman] Actions…favorites so far = bring on the eyes, slight lighten, slight sharpen, & boost.

February update on my list of what I want to accomplish this year + a note on the title::I have managed to get 40% of my drinks at Caribou for free.  WINNING!

1. Read more books & Bible stories to Abby, now that she’s a little older & kind of understands words.

We’ve made it through at least a few pages in her Jesus Bible Storybook. [God just told Noah to build an ark.]  Then she sees toys and gets distracted from the pictures.

2. Update the blog every 2 weeks, minimum.

Seem to be doing well on this front so far.

3. Sew a thing. Going for a quilt, but completing any one project will satisfy this goal. Other than a fabric flower, that is, since those take about 5 minutes and I do by hand. I also saw a really cute tree skirt on a blog I read which I’d like to attempt too.

I have a week off mid-February, so I’ll start Abby’s quilt then.

4. Read all the books I got for my birthday & Christmas this year:

I’m crossing them off this list if I am over halfway through, as they will be completed by the end of the month.

SV Confidential [Pascal]
Longing [Kingsbury] note:  halfway through
9/11 series [Kingsbury-reread] note:  halfway through 1st of 3 books
Forever Faithful [Kingsbury-reread] note:  1st of 3 books read
Hunger Games [Collins-reread] note:  halfway through Mockingjay, #3 of 3 for those of you not up to speed on all things YA Lit.
Marie-Grace & Cecile [American Girl series]
Love & War [Eldridge]
The Male Factor [Feldhahn]
Possession [Gutteridge]
Lost Love series [Kingsbury-reread]  forgot to include this in my initial list.  halfway through #2 of 2.
Ruby [Snelling]  I got this free for my nook, so it’s being added to the list.

+ catch up on at least 1 series of unread books from my collection.
[basket contains books I’ve started &/or borrowed that I really should try to get through this year too!]

5. Catch up on at least 1 TV series [some options: Chuck, House, Bones, HIMYM.]

Haven’t started yet, but I heard Bones is on Netflix, so I think that’s what I’ll do, unless anyone wants to check out my amazon wishlist & get me missing seasons of other shows!!

6. Clean & purge, room by room [including closets].

Will start this on my PTO also.  I have boxed up most of Abby’s 3-6 month clothes, if that counts for anything.

7. Play more Wii Fit + go for walks with Abby this spring/summer/fall. That is my version of working out.

I weighed myself on the balance board.  That counts, right?

8. Keep up-to-date with photobooks &/or scrapbooks for Abby.

I used my free/discounted photobooks to finish up Abby’s first year::already had winter/spring 2011 [0-4 months] & summer 2011 [5-8 months], so I did fall 2011 [9-10 months], & winter 2011/2012 [11-12 months] along with one with my pregnancy photos & updates.  So doing well so far.  Not sure how I’ll do this year, if I’ll do 4 again, or drop down to fewer.

9. Bake more things [use the fun chocolate, etc. chips I liberated from the chocolate, etc. chip collection at Dave & Karen’s house!]

Cupcakes for Abby’s birthday party count, right?

10. Think of a 10th item for this list. Play with our camera & learn more about all the fun things it does + learn more about photo-editing.

I downloaded some [free] lightshop presets & took pictures.

and now, what you’ve all been waiting for::Abby being adorable!

play with all the things
