31 Dec 2005 Honeymoon. Another Day.

This morning David thought the room smelled like food. The continental breakfast room is just down the hall from us. When we went there, he was sad that there were no circle eggs to go with his circle sausage and biscuit. Sad. :( Maybe tomorrow. Then we decided to go to Disneyland. We were waiting for the shuttle, but it did not appear to be coming, so we walked (and beat it!!). We wandered around for awhile, then went to Interventionland or something. (Innoventions in Tomorrowland.) There was no line. :) We listened to a robot thing talk to us and then played with various computer things. Then we went to Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Air blows on you and makes you think there are mice. Weird. We got tickets to go on Space Mountain tonight…between 9:25 and 10:25! That sounded better than waiting in line for 2 hours. We went to the Matterhorn, and just as we were getting up to the ride, it started sprinkling. For some reason, we got to cut through the whole last part of the line and get on the ride. It is bumpy. Bears growl at you and the Abominable Snowman is there. We went to It’s a Small World after that. It is all Christmas-y right now. For some reason, mermaids, Hawaii, and Australia are all lumped together. That was interesting. Outside of it there were trees cut into odd shapes. One of them had square blobs of leaves on each branch. It was raining quite a bit by that time, so we decided to get FastPass tickets for the Haunted Mansion. After we got those, it was pouring, so we tried to find our way out amidst the children running around and crazy people with umbrellas who don’t watch where they’re going. Now we are back at the hotel, and we’ll go back later tonight for our rides and fireworks (if it stops raining!!).

31 Dec 2005 Honeymoon – Day 1

We woke up early this morning to catch an airport shuttle from the hotel we stayed at to the Minneapolis airport. Mpls got about 6 inches of snow and counting as we were leaving, so our plane ended up being delayed about a half an hour to make it be de-iced. When we arrived in Dallas for our connecting flight, we had to run (literally) in order to catch our flight. It was a LONG flight, and Sarah and I didn’t get to sit next to each other, for whatever reason :-( . There was a screaming child sitting in front of Sarah (for about 1/3 of the flight). When we arrived in LA, our bags didn’t. We waited for the next flight from Dallas to arrive, and our bags came with it. We found our shuttle to Alamo Rental car, got that all set, and went to pick a car. We were settled on a midsize Chevy Malibu, but the guy outside said we could upgrade for free to a fullsize Chevy Monte Carlo. It is an awesome car (definitely a highlight for the boy). We went to Target (which was a little bit weird) and ate at Red Robin (first food in 14 hours). Then we went to Downtown Disney to make a bear! His name is Georg, and you can see him pre-stuffing in the pictures below. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow, but we have tickets to Disneyland. Today it was ‘full’ so only California Adventure was accepting visitors. We will go tomorrow to see if we have luck at all. In the evening, there was space, but we did not have tickets yet, so….hopefully weather will cooperate for a while. Weather was in the 60′s, partly cloudy.

29 Dec 2005 WE’RE MARRIED!

Well, it’s official. We are now Mr. and Mrs. David Helfinstine. Pictures of the wedding will be up soon on the website, as soon as some are emailed to me. Here is a picture of part of the hotel room that we stayed at in Fargo at the Hotel Donaldson. The room was amazing and had great extra things like robes and slippers, truffles, and art by a local artist throughout the room. Hope you like them! We’ll post more when we’re in LA.

19 Dec 2005 9 days to go…

So the wedding’s in 9 days. Between now (Monday) and Wednesday, I have to do my stats take home (which, as Rick and Wendy so kindly noted at the top, should not take more than 10 hours if we’ve kept up), grade finals (in class and take home portions), grade papers, and move from my apartment to Dave’s. We’ll see how this works…
We have a pretty Christmas tree. It’s my tree from last year (one of those $17 Target ones), with both of our stuff on it. There are lots and lots of lights and ornaments. It is pretty and sparkly. (Now there are presents under it.)

We have a new pastor at my church. He is actually the pastor from my church at home from when I was little (he left my church when I was 6 1/2). It’s fun to have him again. Dave likes him too, I think. :)
What else is going on? Hmmm, I had to present in seminar last week. I had to make computer code to calculate Hoyt’s Reliability Coefficient using R. That was fun, or something, but I did it! Woohoo!
Dave was looking at phones last night. Apparently, it would cost about the same for him to add a line to mine and both of us upgrade our phones as it would for me to pay the early termination fee and transfer over to his and upgrade phones. Interesting. He prefers playing with cell phone websites to thinking about the wedding. :)
I’m going to go attempt to work on my take home now. Later.

25 Oct 2005 Marginal Means

Please excuse the name of this one…in one of the classes I’m a TA for, I’ve been getting multiple questions about what these actually are, so I’ve got them stuck in my head.
Anyway, it’s been a while, so I thought I should write something. School kind of makes more sense now, but it alternates from day to day and class to class where I already have learned everything we’re talking about, and then it’s suddenly way over my head. I’m like, wait a minute, I was completely following last time, and now this stuff is just crazy!! Ah well, maybe someday I’ll be smart…
Work’s exciting. It was the Holiday floorset this past weekend. I think corporate forgot that Christmas isn’t for 2 more months, because I’m pretty sure they’re not meaning Halloween by “Holiday”!!! And we have to answer the phone even more strangely than before (and no one at my store remembers!), as Dave was quick to remind me yesterday when he called about a question we had earlier. It’s even on the poster behind the registers. One of my managers said that he can look right at it while he’s answering the phone and mess it up!!
So yeah, just over 2 months until the wedding! Wow. I’m going home in a couple weeks for more exciting planning (cake, flowers, dress fitting, and bridal shower at church!) and again in another couple weeks (trial hair and makeup run!).
I should grade labs now since lab is tomorrow. Bye!

13 Sep 2005 Wedding Rings
 |  Category: David, Miscellaneous  | Tags: ,  | Comments off

Sarah and I purchased wedding rings over the weekend. Here is a picture of mine. There’s not a picture of Sarah’s online. They’re not matching or anything, but they’re both what we wanted in a ring…her’s has more sparkly’s, mine has a little bling, but mostly just a straightforeward band. Anyways, The new store opens at Woodbury this Thursday so things are pretty hectic getting everything ready for opening. Everyone should come out and visit! I pretty much spend most of my life there. The store looks really cool! (Woodbury Lakes). Bye for now!

06 Sep 2005 First Day of School
 |  Category: Sarah  | Tags:  | Comments off

So today is my first day of grad school, and I am currently sitting in the office next door to mine. This one belongs to Ben, Rick, and 2 other people. My office does not have a place for me yet. There is a space where my desk will go, but the floor is all nasty and they’re waiting to get it cleaned. And my desk is in another room altogether, so that is why I am in this one, using the high quality wireless connection here on the 6th floor. (This page opened on the…5th attempt??)
Anyway…
I was sitting in my first class, just about to be let out, when my shoe breaks. The piece that goes between my toes on my flipflops ripped right out from the sole! Yay. So I tried to staple it, but that only worked until I had walked about 3 steps. After my 2nd class, it was lunch time, so I figured that I would check out the campus store to see what they might have. Since I couldn’t exactly walk in my shoes as they were, I had to walk all over campus with one shoe on. Hopefully I won’t get any bizarre diseases! I got to the store, but of course they were out of flipflops and suggested that I try to staple it or something. Ha. Grrr. Then I was eating lunch and just as I was finishing, I noticed I didn’t have my keys. I remembered having them as I was leaving my office after getting money for the futile trip to the store, but I couldn’t find them in the food place or anywhere near where I was sitting. After a few minutes, it occurred to me that I could possibly have left them in the bathroom before I left, so I decided to risk it and walk back across to my building and check before I tried looking anywhere else around there. Thankfully, they were there, right where I had put them, and that made me happy, but my shoes are still broken and I have to be here another 4+ hours.
That’s it for now. Hopefully things will get better!
