22 Jan 2006 I Miss SF
 |  Category: David, honeymoon, Miscellaneous, Work  | Tags:  | Comments off

I miss being on vacation. Aparently, we hired a new manager, and she starts Sunday. I am to train her. I can’t wait till she’s trained so I don’t have to work weird hours with no breaks. I really liked being in San Francisco. I would love to go back! I can’t wait till I can again. It is such a cool city. Even LA was really cool…California in general is such an interesting and diverse state. I hear next new years could be somewhere warm with the entire extended family, I only hope I can get off of work for such a momentous occasion! Well, work is going OK right now. Not entirely stressful, business is slowed down from Holiday time. Can’t wait till Summer!!! Oh! We got our proofs on Wednesday, so if anyone wants to see them…let us know! They are sort of ‘online’ but the address is not public. If anyone wants to order prints, we have prices and info. The pics will be ‘public’ as soon as we hear back from the photographer if the site is OK with him.

08 Jan 2006 Honeymoon – Day 9 – Home again

Not much interesting happened today. Lots of ‘real world’ type stuff. I got a call this morning at 9:45am PT from the place we are going to move into. The lady said that everything was good, she just needed to know what address we were moving into. I told her and she said, oh, really, that address isn’t up until the end of FEBRUARY not JANUARY (or at least she thought). She said she’d check with the resident and get back to me. She hadn’t by the time we made it to the airport, around 11am PT, so I called her. She gave me a list of other addresses, but said she was still checking. We (hopefully) will get to live on the same street, but different address than what was printed on our wedding bulletin. Oops to them I guess. There was some interesting people in Dallas boarding our flight…wearing shorts and tank tops, some weird lady with a green hat that had a bird-like thing sticking out from the top of it. I got some blurry pictures with my camera phone. Other that that, luggage came back safely. Now its just a matter of assimilating all of Sarah’s stuff into my little one-bedroom apartment for a month. I think we need to start packing ASAP. And then there’s bills….dentist’s are a pain in the butt. They say everything is covered ’100%’ and then send you a bill for a hundred some dollars of uncovered charges. Riiiiight. Life as usual. Hopefully we’ll both blog on here more. We’ll change the name from our ‘engagement’ blog to just a normal blog now. TTFN!

07 Jan 2006 Honeymoon Day 8
 |  Category: honeymoon, Sarah  | Tags:  | Comments off

Today was very exciting. We got up and checked out of the hotel in San Francisco, and then we navigated our way through town to Highway 80 so we could go to Sacramento. Leaving SF, we drove across the Bay Bridge, which is really really long. At one point, we had to pay a $3 toll for driving somewhere; I don’t remember where or why. We stopped in or near Vallejo for lunch and gas. The girl at Taco Bell asked me multiple times what I wanted, which was slightly confusing for me, since I’d already told her. We also had to drive around the entire town in order to find gas!! The only place we could find “easily” was members-only, but eventually we found normal gas stations. Then we were back on the road, and when we were around Davis, there was this weird smoky fog. That cleared up, but as we got closer to Sacramento, there was extreme fog and an odd lake/ocean looking body of water right next to us. We don’t think it was supposed to be there, as there were trees growing out of it… We eventually got to our hotel (the 1st numbered exit we found on the highway!! You would think that they should actually be numbered before 12A, wouldn’t you??), and our room is really big. I think it’s getting close to the size of the apartment back home!! We checked out one of the malls here and found yet another AE that was slightly not normal. (Window signs that were supposed to be down before Christmas!) It was your typical, decent mall, with trees inside. We had to drive through a weird ghetto area, bordered by a Mercedes-Benz dealership. Dave got to experience the intriguing pre-pay cash or ATM gas stations they have here, which don’t accept normal anything. He didn’t really want to pay the extra fees to use the ATM, and the machines to eat cash was broken, so then you have to go in, give them cash, and go back for your change. I don’t think he enjoyed that gas station much. After we returned to our hotel, we ordered pizza and have just been hanging out watching TV here. We got the hotel guys to print out our ticket boarding pass whatever they are things, and we appear to have the correct seats (as in, seats that are next to each other) for both flights tomorrow! Yay! It will be sad to have to go back to snow…it’s been nice here these past few days. We fly out of here shortly after noon, and a 3 hour or so flight gets us to Dallas at 5:40!! I love time zones. Okay, that’s it for now. I think I have to go cram a little more stuff into my suitcase. Bye!

05 Jan 2006 Honeymoon – Day 7 – Lombard Support
 |  Category: David, honeymoon, photos  | Tags: ,  | Comments off

We had a very interesting day today. Drove all through the city. First, we went to Stonestown Galleria, a real indoor shopping mall. We had lunch there and checked out the stores. AE needed some real help. Then we drove across the Golden Gate Bridge. Nothing too spectacular about that, but the views were very pretty and Sausalito was nice. On our way back, we drove down Lombard street, the really steep street that curves back and forth. That was a lot of fun. We have video of Golden Gate and Lombard we’ll have to post later. Then we set out to find the bubble tea place that Sarah went to with her cousin Eric a year ago. It was on Clement Street, and they have their own website www.genkicrepes.com! The bubble tea there was very tasty. On our way back we drove by the ‘Full House’ vista (it’s really just the ‘Painted Ladies’ houses, but there they were. We couldn’t find where the real Full House house was. I thought it’d be cool to go down Lombard street again, but somehow we ended up near Downtown on Market street, where, once you get on the street, you can’t make any left turns…the direction we wanted to go. So instead, you have to go around the block and go straight through the intersection. Then we made it back to Lombard and down again (this time in the dark) with only minimal honking at other cars who were driving stupidly (making left turns where they can’t). Tonight we walked down Fisherman’s Wharf. Sarah purchased some souveniers at a pirate store, and as we were walking down the street a scary homeless man made a growling noise at us after ‘hiding’ behind some tree branches. Very weird. We went to Pier 39, home of the Sea Lions. They were very loud. I tried to get a picture, but it was too dark to see them. We ate at the Pier Market Restaurant that’s evidentally been around almost as long as the pier hasn’t been a garbage dump. The food was delectable. Walking back from there, I was ‘had’ by a shoe shine. He said that if he could guess “where I got my shoes” city state and everything, he’d shine them for free. He said that I got my shoes on my feet and they’re in San Francisco, CA. So it was $5 for the shine and $5 for the line ($10). My shoes did need a bit of cleaning after wearing them in the rain, so now they look clean again. Of course, I could have bought a bottle of polish for the same price, but I would never have used it up, so I figure it was an investment into the man’s future. (or something like that) And that brings us to 10pm here. Tomorrow we drive to Sacramento with a possible stop in Napa (if the roads aren’t bad and things are cleaned up from the flooding earlier in the week). Otherwise, maybe we’ll get to see the Gov, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

05 Jan 2006 Honeymoon – Day 6 – Chinatown
 |  Category: David, honeymoon, photos  | Tags: ,  | Comments off

Had a late start today (around noon). We ate lunch at ‘In-n-Out Burger’ which was really quite tasty. Then we walked to Chinatown. The weather was beautiful…mid 60′s, perfectly clear, best day so far! We had a great time going through all the little shops in Chinatown and bought lots of souveniers and gifts for people. We walked back around 4 or so and went to the ‘Basic Brown Bear Factory’, which is basically like Build-A-Bear workshop, only they make their own clothes and bears right there in the shop. We built a baby for Georg and Micaela and named it Kilikina, which means Christina in Hawaiian. This evening we went back to Chinatown for dinner. We at at ‘House of Nan King’ which was absolutely delicious! Huge portions for not a lot of money. Oh yeah, this afternoon I introduced Sarah to Lychee jelly. And later in the afternoon, we had bubble tea. Sarah had Almond (her favorite) and I had Taro (my favorite). The Taro was FRESH, not powdered like most places. The flavor was very strong, but very good. Back to tonight, after dinner, we walked down toward the financial discrict and the shopping area. We saw 3 Gap stores, 3 Aldo’s and AMERICAN EAGLE!! It was really weird, becasue Lori, Sarah’s manager from Rosedale from a few years ago, was the store manager at the location we were at. We didn’t know she worked there. So Sarah and her had a good chat about AE happenings. On our way back, we stopped at Sephora and Sarah bought some lip plumping stuff, and I showed her the man-makeup. We saw another Gap. It is amazing all the stores that are down there! Anything you can name is there. It’s like MOA outside. We walked through Chinatown on our way back and bought more stuff, and then made our way back to the hotel. By the end of the day we estimated that we walked about 8-9 miles total. My legs hurt! It’s not like it was walking on a flat surface, San Fran is all built on hills. It was a great day though! The weather was perfect for being outside. I Love San Francisco!!!

03 Jan 2006 Honeymoon – Day 5 – Rice-A-Roni

This morning we woke up to Sun and beautiful weather in San Luis Obispo. We had power all night, and the hotel was really nice. There were some mountains (big hills?) around us, so I took some pictures. We ate at Carl’s Jr. (aka Hardee’s), which was pretty good. We drove the rest of the way up 101 to San Francisco. We drove through San Jose and saw several Silicon Valley companies (Yahoo!). Tonight we ate at some restaurant in Fisherman’s Wharf called Nonna Rose. It was completely empty when we got there, but there were a few more people when we left. The Clam Chowder there was amazing! I had a Calamari Steak and Sarah had a Caesar Salad. Then we went to Ghiradelli Square. Most everything was closed (except for a few odd stores). Most everything in the area closes at 6…which seems a bit odd. Anyways, that’s about the extent of our day. It’s raining again, but is supposed to (please oh please) be nice the next three days. On our agenda for Thursday and Friday: Chinatown, Bubble Tea, and a Mall. We’ll probably explore the area around here too. There’s so much to do!!!

02 Jan 2006 Honeymoon – Day 4 – Rain, Rain, Go AWAY!
 |  Category: David, honeymoon, photos  | Tags:  | Comments off

Today should be the last day of rain. Hopefully. We started the morning in Anaheim with high winds and rain. We drove through Los Angeles and tried to see the Hollywood sign, but it was too cloudy to see from where we were. There were some amazingly large houses when we drove through Bel Air and Beverly Hills. The view as we drove into Camirillo was awesome! The sun came out for a few minutes (5 minutes of 10 the whole day). We drove all the way through to Pismo Beach. The view in the room was awesome! It really was a room with a view. I’ll have to post pictures from the video when we get home. We went out in the afternoon to the store and to IHOP for dinner. We were having a lot of fun, and we were getting ready to plan the rest of our evening….when the power went out. Then it came back on…then went off…then on…then off…….for a long time. We decided to go the Outlet mall nearby, and then run to WalMart to get some candles (5 votives $.10 each + $.97 lighter. When we came back, the power was still out. Frustrated, I started calling around to other hotels in Pismo, most of which were also without power. So I called a Hampton Inn in some town that ended up being 45 minutes away. They referred me to an Embassy Suites and a Holiday Inn Express in San Luis Obispo, about 10 minutes away from Pismo Beach. The hotel has power (a plus) and is really very nice inside. We’ll stay here tonight, get some breakfast in the morning, and check out around 11:30 or so. We have about a 3 1/2 – 4 hour drive to San Francisco tomorrow. And the weather should be much better!! (Hopefully)
