08 Nov 2010 getting ready for baby, part 3.

David’s parents came over to help us paint on Saturday.
His mom did the taping (after we quick busted out the Baby’s room so the guys could get started painting in there), while I did arts & crafts.

You can see the paint color along the ceiling and corners.

Bones thought she was getting new toys; tape is delicious.

What?  How can you possibly think I’d steal rolls of tape?  I only did it twice…”

Completely safe.  I always encourage people to follow ladder safety, at home & at work.

David has skills.  He can remove a vent while holding a trim cup!

They got all the green painted:  Baby’s room, hallways, and entry.

Kristen & Chad stopped by to see how things were progressing, eat snacks, and play with Bones.
Then Kari came by with her laminating to cut out; she enlisted her mom’s help when the taping & hanging off of ladders was complete.

I had fun with arts & crafts.

Step 1:  Make a pattern.

Step 2:  Pin it together & see if it works.  Puppy sniffing is optional.

Step 3:  Pin pieces of curtain panel together.

Step 4:  Make loops for top of curtain.

Step 5:  Sew curtain panel together.

Step 6:  Add cute ribbon to cover seam.

Step 7:  Put mobile together & admire its cuteness!

The final product!  Light green walls painted by Daddy & Grandpa; cute animal artwork; lamp from Grandma & Grandpa; and mobile decorations, pillow, & curtain made by Mommy!

(The little rocking chair will move elsewhere until she’s big enough to use it, but for now, it’s here!)

17 Mar 2009 Finally “moved in”!

Phase 1 of painting is officially done (I think?  Maybe we’ll put another coat on a wall in the kitchen still, but close enough)!  The main floor is painted and almost completely the way I want it.  I just need to put pictures in the picture frames and get some new, non-shedding throws.  Here are pictures of the "completed" living and dining rooms and kitchen.

So the next phases of painting will include hallways & entry, bedrooms & baths, and family room.  Sounds like too much work.  If anyone wants to help, come on over!!!

26 Feb 2009 3 months later…

We’ve been in our house for 3 months now, and we’re finally getting furniture!  I suppose that’s about how long it took to get our couch & chair when we moved to our old house, so I guess that’s how we do things!

Since I worked a half-day on Monday and David had the day off, we went to IKEA that afternoon and got our living and dining room furniture!  TV stand, bookcases, table & chairs, buffet.  So far, "we" have assembled the 6 chairs, buffet (hey, I built about half of it!), and wall shelf to go above the TV, between the bookcases.  Oh, and a cute wooden stepstool so we can reach the top shelf in our kitchen cupboards!  It’s nice to have cupboards that go to the ceiling so the space above isn’t wasted, but the top shelves are so high then!  And sadly, I think I may be getting a little old for climbing on the counters to reach things…or maybe I’m allowed to do that until I have impressionable children!  We also will have the pleasure of painting the house, although that project will also involve fixing nail-pops in the wall and getting a very tall ladder for the entryway!

Our buffet.  It is very large and definitely requires 2 people to assemble!

05 Jan 2009 it’s christmastime in hugo…

I should have posted these pictures earlier, but I didn’t get around to it…kind of like I didn’t get around to doing Christmas cards until December 23rd.  Or baking Christmas cookies (at all!) until December 20/21.  Or making lefse dough until Christmas Eve…at 9pm.  Oh well, better late than never, right?  At least it all got done before Christmas!  Well, except for this.  So, without further adieu, updated pictures of our house, decorated for Christmas.  This will most likely be one of the last posts containing pictures of our house, so if you want to see more of it, come visit!

Time to sign away our lives entirely!
A week and a half ago we signed a purchase agreement for a townhouse near Kristen & Chad…3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, 3 stories with a family room! It’s in an association with a community center with a fitness center, party room, & pool, along with biking/walking trails. Also, with association fees and the mortgage, it’s completely affordable–not much more than we’re currently paying to rent our lovely 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath townhome with zero amenities!
Today we got two novels in the mail, as I like to call them. Two copies of all the mortgage papers where we sign away our lives. I wonder how many trees are used to create all these forms that we sign & then just file away somewhere…
So yay! Exciting. We have to turn in notice here by the end of the month, then closing is mid/late November, provided everything goes according to plan.

In other exciting news, we opened our new aerie store last Tuesday. Our store is lovely and beautiful, although it’s so much slower than AE! I’m the hiring manager, so it was incredibly chaotic the first week of September when I was trying to get us a full staff, along with looking for houses. Then, the weekend we were getting ready to open the store, we signed the purchase agreement! Our NSO (new store opener–corporate sends each new store someone to help them open–a manager from another store who has been trained to help, or at the very least, given a list of email addresses and phone numbers of people to contact when something inevitably goes wrong!) figured my stress level must be at about 27 on a 1-10 scale. Oh well, how different is buying a house & opening a store be from taking finals, grading finals, moving, & getting married in a one-week time frame??

21 Aug 2008 let’s try this again…

So, as David & I have both written, we’ve been “looking” for a house. Due to just finishing up school, not having real jobs, & having student loans, we couldn’t get the one we wanted in January. Now, since David has a real job (plus a raise) and I have a real job (manager at our new Aerie store, opening in September), we’re going to try again. Before we start looking too hardcore, we’re going to see what we’re approved for. If high enough, there are some new Centex homes that will be at the top of our list!
