Abby had her 12 month appointment yesterday.  She has gained a whole…12 ounces in the past month, so current stats are as follows.

Length::28 inches
[[17th percentile]]

Weight::17 lbs, 3 oz
[[1st percentile according to the charts the doctor uses, 2.6 percentile according to the website I’ve been looking at.  Either way, she’s staying about the same, so the doctor’s cool with it.]]

Head Circumference::17.75 inches
[[50th percentile]]

Weight-for-height::13th percentile

DSC_4820.NEF

Abby’s been having a lot of fun pulling up on furniture, Mommy, boxes, walls, & crib rails.  She’s discovered there are things above the floor [like cell phones, remotes, & laptops], which are just asking to be pulled off the coffee table!

DSC_4826.NEF

Abby likes to explore the house too, crawling under whatever furniture she can, like tables & chairs, & into small spaces, especially to find her bibs, which are fun toys.  She also tries to crawl into her car seat to play with the toys on the handle.

DSC_4839.NEF

Abby still loves to eat, especially dessert!  She loves yogurt, cheese, & ice cream, but whole milk doesn’t seem to agree with her little tummy just yet.  [She kept spitting up after having an ounce or two of milk. ] We’ll just keep on with full-fat cheese & other dairy, & the doctor said to wait a few weeks, then give the milk another try.

DSC_4846.NEF

In addition to whatever signs Abby knows, she is starting to say ‘words.’  Well, sounds that seem to be associated with specific things:

‘dadada’ for Daddy
‘mamama’ for Mommy [when she’s crying!]
‘ba-ba,’ signs ‘milk,’ or points to her bottle when she wants milk
‘wawawawa’ when she’s getting a bath
When she saw the stuffed kitty she got from her Great Grandpa & Grandma for Christmas, she whispered ‘cat,’ & we’ve heard her say ‘dog’ too.

Moral of the Story:  Baby Girl’s growing up!

Stay Tuned For:  how I’m doing, 1 month into my 2012 goals.  Woo!

27 Oct 2011 abby::nine months

Can you believe it?  Little Miss Abby is 9 months old!

DSC_3685.NEF

Abby had her nine-month appointment today, complete with flu shot (for me too!) and blood draw.  She didn’t cry at all with her finger poke; she got a little upset that it took so long to get enough blood and yelled a bit towards the end.  She didn’t even mind her flu shot!  Afterwards, she looked at me like, “Wait, I think I’m supposed to cry about this.  Mommy!!”  And then she was over it.  The doctor pronounced her ‘perfect’ and said she’s ‘doing fabulously.’  Yay Abby!  She continues to be my tiny little girl—the nurse commented that she’s had 2-month old boys weighing more than Abby weighs now!

DSC_3689.NEF

Nine-Month Stats

Length:  26.5 inches
{15.5 percentile::in line with last check-up}

Weight:  15 lbs., 6 oz.
{3.4 percentile::yay—only 96.6 percent of babies are bigger than Abby now!!}

Head Circumference:  17.25 inches
{42.9 percentile::getting bigger!}

Weight-for-Height:  14.3 percentile::the doctor was very impressed by her growth here.

DSC_3690.NEF

Developmentally, Abby is doing exactly what she should be doing.  She learned how to wave last week; she spent a whole day at school waving to everyone!  She crawls by scooting and flinging herself forward.  She can get up on her hands and knees, but isn’t quite sure what she should do from there (hence, flinging herself forward!).  She likes to talk and laugh and is very curious about everything that is going on around her.  Her favorite things to do are eat her toys, especially her picnic food; eat actual food; and play with Bones.  She also likes to watch the big kids at school—she likes being in the walker there so she can chase after them…and they can give her rides!

DSC_3693.NEF

Abby loves food.  She really enjoys feeding herself puffs, yogurt melts, crunchies, and any other finger foods I give her.  She doesn’t have any teeth yet, which limits what I can actually give her in terms of table food.  Last week we got a copy of the school lunch menu and got to select what fruits/veggies Abby can eat from it!  She does not like baby food vegetables other than sweet potatoes and squash anymore, but she likes to eat ‘real’ vegetables.  She wants to eat everything she can get her little hands on, and can eat her weight in food!  She can still eat a container of fruit or fruit/oatmeal in 2 minutes or less.  When she feeds herself, she spends more time eating because it’s so fun!

DSC_3695.NEF

This week I started putting some 6-9 month clothes on Abby.  They are still big on her, but she doesn’t swim in them.  Since it’s getting cooler and her 9 month clothes are more fall/wintery, I figured I’d give it a shot.  She looks so grown up in her fall clothes!  So for the next few weeks, Abby has twice the wardrobe.  I can still layer her 6 month clothes with long-sleeve onesies and leggings for a while, like I did with her 3 month clothes in the spring.

DSC_3699.NEF

Abby is a fantastic sleeper:  she goes to bed about 7pm each night and will sleep about 12 hours if given the opportunity.  Earlier this week she let me sleep in until 9:30!  When I went to her room, she was awake, just playing in her crib, completely happy.  She is not terribly impressed with me on mornings I get her up at 6:30; she would rather just be given her pacifier and go back to sleep.  I’ve been putting her to bed without it recently and just giving it to her if she wakes up early.  After our ‘fun’ summer excursions to Fargo and Farmington where she did not appreciate sleeping not at home, we have discovered that she does not like sleeping in the same room as Mommy & Daddy.  If we put her in a separate room when we’re not at home, she goes to bed just fine and sleeps as usual.  {Of course, her wonderful sleeping habits make me nervous that future babies will be horrible sleepers…ack!}

This little girl is eight months old.

DSC_3189.NEF

She doesn’t have a doctor’s appointment until 9 months, so we don’t have real stats for her.
She is about 14 lbs., by our best estimation.
Abby is is wearing 6 month clothes primarily, sometimes some 3 month.  The waistbands on 3 months fit her fine, she’s just outgrown the length.  Her pants are more capri length, which still works okay for leggings.
We’ve graduated to size 2 diapers for their absorbency.  Yay for no more waking up in the middle of the night because the diaper, sleeper, and sheet are all soaked through!

This month Abby has experienced some exciting new things:

over Labor Day weekend, my family came to visit and we went to the MN State Fair, where Abby got to meet goats…

i00053

pet sheep…

i00063

{silly sheep!}

i00064

and try to steal Mommy’s food!
{mmm, pork chops}

i00082

Abby has decided that everything is delicious, especially the food from her picnic set.  She’s very good at eating pretend food…

DSC_3243.NEF

and plastic rings…

DSC_3282.NEF

and she’s working on mastering puffs.

DSC_3412.NEF

{She has also tried guacamole at Chipotle and stole a fry off my plate at Red Robin and proceeding to eat it.  Right after she inhaled a tub of apple-banana oatmeal.  Hungry baby!}

We’ve also been practicing our big girl skills, like sitting…
{as long as she doesn’t decide to reach for a toy or have a meltdown, she’s great at it!}

DSC_3320.NEF

and crawling…
{she’s started being able to get up on her hands and knees.  She can spin herself 360 degrees in one minute or less and ‘swims’ to get to her toys.}

DSC_3327.NEF

and playing with her favorite puppy sister…
{we try to limit their kisses, as that is equal parts adorable and disgusting.}

DSC_3342.NEF

and talking.
{Abby likes to say “dadadada” and “didididi.”}

DSC_3347.NEF

Moral of the Story:

Abby needs to grow some teeth so she can eat big people food.

What’s Up Next:

Abby + Mommy will be headed to Fargo for a long weekend in October, as will ‘Auntie’ Melissa, so I’ll probably have to write about that.

First of all, I lied.  I said I was going to do a book review or a post on my new hobby hobbies next.

 fail #1
I still haven’t finished the book.

fail #2
I have only completed one item and have only taken one picture of my new hobbies.

I will remedy both of these as soon as Abby starts school I have time.

Today Abby is seven months old.  In 18 minutes from the moment I am writing this sentence, actually.

DSC_3082.NEF

Since Abby’s six-month appointment was just 2.5 weeks ago, not much has changed in regard to what she is doing overall.  She continues to be silly and giggly, but very interested in seeing what is going on around her when she’s in new places.  Crinkly noises are getting to be pretty exciting, as is her pull giraffe that sings the Toyland song.

DSC_3050.NEF

She tries to crawl and sit on her own.  She can manage a few seconds sitting, but then she usually notices something fun and reaches for it, resulting in baby tipping over.  She doesn’t quite get her tummy off the ground when she’s trying to crawl, but she pushes herself forward.  She also spins herself around and rolls onto her side or tummy while she’s in bed.

DSC_3074.NEF

I’m still putting her in both 3 & 6 month clothes, depending on what’s clean and the weather!  We may need to graduate her to size 2 diapers soon, as she seems to be outgrowing the size 1 absorbency.

DSC_3090.NEF

In addition to fingers and the letter ‘v,’ Abby eats all the Gerber 1st foods (except peas.  Ew.  I dislike them, so I didn’t feel like giving them to her.)  We’re now trying out the 2nd foods (fruit & cereal blends, mixed fruits & veggies).  She has had peas in the Garden Vegetables…peas, carrots, & spinach.  She really enjoys the Vanilla Custard with Bananas.  This week I gave her baby yogurt and some shredded cheese, which she ate happily.  She had a sippy cup with water in it last weekend, and she was able to bring it to her mouth and get some water from it!

More seven month photos + some from earlier this month coming soon to a facebook album near you.

Baby Girl’s 6-month checkup was this morning.

She succeeded in looking adorable as usual, and the doctor says she just keeps getting cuter.  Thank you very much.

DSC_2134

Abby was unsure about the doctor and her assistant…kept eyeing them up like, “I know you’re going to do something I don’t like…I can tell.”  She kept looking at me during her checkup, making sure it was okay for the doctor to look in her ears, listen to her heart, etc.  It was really cute.

DSC_2139

6 month stats.

Head Circumference:  16 1/4 inches
[13.2 percentile]

Weight:  12 lbs., 4 oz.
[0.9 percentile.  !!!]

Length:  25 inches
[17.2 percentile]

Weight for Length:  0.8 percentile
This is what the doctor looks at to make sure she’s growing…Abby’s been staying in the same growth pattern since she was born—her weight for length has stayed in the same percentile.

DSC_2148

She ate her oral vaccine like a rock star baby…record time!  She had her face-crumpling-up-then-delayed-crying reaction to her shots, followed by a silly “AHH!  AHH!  AHH!” cry afterwards.  She then gave Amanda (the nurse/physician’s assistant/whatever her real title is) the evil eye.

DSC_2164

Bones and Abby continue to be best friends. Abby thinks Bones is hilarious and likes to watch her. She giggles when Bones licks her hands and feet (see above picture).

Abby is a pretty calm baby in general, with silly moments in the afternoon, where she giggles at herself.  If you tickle her or do funny things when she’s in her silly mood, she’ll have giggle attacks, where she’ll just start laughing like crazy.  So cute & sooo funny!

DSC_2168

She thinks she can talk.  One day when I brought her to school, she said “Hi!” to one of her little friends and the teacher, who looked at me and asked, “Did she just say ‘hi’?”  Yes, I think she did.  My baby’s a genius.  She’s also said things that sounds like, “Mommy,” “Daddy,” and “Abby,” all in correct context.

DSC_2176

Abby is mostly in 6 month clothes, still because I am sick of her 3 month clothes.  Anything with a waistband just hangs there & almost falls off when she stands, but she needs the length.  I still have her in size 1 diapers.  We have some size 2’s, but she isn’t outgrowing the 1’s yet.

DSC_2180

We started Abby on food after her 4 month appointment.  She is a fantastic little eater.  She doesn’t spit anything back out, and is starting to try to feed herself with the spoon. [Sorry, sweetie, not quite yet!]  Her favorites are oatmeal, applesauce, pears, sweet potatoes, squash, and green beans.  She eats prunes, bananas, and rice cereal with no problem, but doesn’t inhale them like the others.  She doesn’t like carrots:  she still eats them, but cries the whole time!  She really liked her rice cereal with apples and mangoes too. We picked up peaches (they were out previously) and a bunch of 2nd foods (mixed fruits, sweet potatoes + corn, cereal + fruit, etc.) when we went grocery shopping after vacation, so she has quite the variety of food now.  I got the okay from the doctor today to start her on finger foods—bring on the Cheerios, puffs, and little chunks of cheese & bananas! We also are good to go on baby yogurt.

DSC_2186

Abby loves to stand up and looks around at everything.  She likes to be able to see what’s going on.  She knows how to roll both ways now, and doesn’t get so upset with being on her tummy—just  when she gets bored being there.  She tries to crawl, but can’t quite get the traction she needs to really move.  She likes to play in her jumperoo & her bouncer, now that she can reach the toys!  She loves her mobile gym/playmat thing, and also likes playing on a quilt on the floor with her burp cloth.  Who knew a burp cloth could be so entertaining?!

DSC_2187

Moral of the story…

Abby is on a strict, full-fat diet, courtesy of her doctor.  No low-fat or fat-free foods for this girl!

Stay tuned for…

I’ve decided to take up a new hobby.  I’m not crazy.  Also, another book review…once I finish the book!

The end.

Baby girl is 5 months old!

DSC_1803

I took her pictures a day early (again) on Father’s Day.  She was not interested in giving me any smiles due to her cold (can you blame her?), but she still succeeded in looking adorable.

DSC_1766

This was our first attempt at 3-6 month clothes.  I think it was reasonably successful.  I don’t have real stats for her, but her 3 month clothes are still plenty big around, for the most part.  She is too tall for most of her sleep & plays, and is even starting to push it on the 6 month ones of certain brands.  The pants for her 6 month outfits are long enough, but h.u.g.e. around the waist…like an inch-plus too loose!  Skinny little bunny.  I’d guess maybe 12 lbs. now, 25-26 inches tall.

DSC_1779

As far as diapers go, she is still in size 1.  We got a mailer from Pampers talking about how we might be ready to move to the next size, which means she can try out a different kind of diaper.  Apparently they are under the assumption that she is ready to move into size 3 Cruisers.  Sorry Pampers, Abby’s still in her size 1 Swaddlers, with the occasional Baby Dry.  And Luvs.  Once she is solidly at 12 lbs., she can move up to size 2.  So we have a ways to go until we’re ready for size 3…like another 4+ pounds.

DSC_1780

Look at those big blue eyes!  Abby loves looking around at everyone and everything.  She prefers to be standing so she can see what’s going on.  She looks around with her eyes wide open (without blinking) like she can’t see enough.

DSC_1787

Hands are delicious.  Have you ever tasted them?  Abby thinks they are fantastic and usually has at least one in her mouth, both if she can manage it.

DSC_1735

Abby looks like such a big girl here.  What happened to my little baby??

DSC_1743

Abby has decided that food is delicious.  She’s been staring at our food since she was about 6 weeks old (especially pizza and chocolate cake.  Girl’s got good taste).  She wasn’t too interested in the ‘first feeding’ mixing of the rice cereal, which I refer to as rice cereal soup…you know, 1 tbsp of cereal + ~2oz. of milk/formula.  It’s basically slightly thick milk.  She didn’t think that was worth eating, and if it was, it should be coming from a bottle.  She was a trooper, though, and didn’t spit it out.  Just cried like she was being starved.  On Father’s Day, we tried out some applesauce, which she loved.  I decided to work on thicker rice cereal for her, and she gobbles it up like a hungry, hungry hippo when it’s applesauce consistency.  She ate half a jar at dinner on Friday for David’s birthday!  (She was offered a kids’ menu at Red Robin.  I refrained from telling them that unless applesauce and rice cereal are on it, probably not.)  We tried out bananas yesterday at lunch, which were also a success.

DSC_1826

Abby was a pretty princess on her actual five-month birthday.  Everyone at school thought she was so cute.  She stood up on the counter and showed off and all the little boys were looking at her.  Ha!

Excitingly, she decided to love her pacifier while she and I were in Fargo a couple weekends ago (to see Timothy upon his return to the U.S.).  I think she might be starting some early teething…the girl drools like crazy!  I think the real food is helping too.  So we’ll see when she starts actually getting some baby teeth.  It has helped her successfully make it all the way through church twice!  She usually decides that she should give her input during the sermon, which, while adorable, is not how most Lutheran churches operate.

DSC_1829

“Nobody understands.  It’s so exhausting being a baby!”

Moral of the story…

Abby will be great at preschool games considering she is already a hungry, hungry hippo and a pretty, pretty princess.

Stay tuned for…

I got a free book in the mail!  So I will be doing a review of Robin Jones Gunn’s newest novel, out in July!

The end.

DSC_1687

Miss Abby had her 4-month appointment this morning.  It was a week or so late due to my change in jobs (and thus, change in insurance).

DSC_1646

4 Month Abby Stats

Weight:  10 lbs, 15 oz.

[[3.3 percentile]]

Length:  24 inches

[[30.8 percentile]]

Head Circumference:  16 inches

[[32.6 percentile]]

She’s staying on track to be tall & skinny.  The doctor’s fine with her weight since she eats well and looks & acts healthy.  She’s just thin.  She almost has one roll on each thigh…

DSC_1682

Developmentally, she can do everything she should at 4 months, and is acting like a 6-7 month old in some areas.  Yay Abby!

DSC_1652

She did a good job at the doctor:  she had fun looking around & watching what was going on when her ears were looked at.  She was getting hungry when shot time came around, so she sucked down the oral rotavirus vaccine in record time (according to the nurse!), then screamed when she got her shots.  Poor baby.

DSC_1649

Abby’s becoming quite the talker.  She talks to her hands, frog, Angry Bird, & mobile, along with the ceiling fan in our room when I lay her on our bed.  She also talks to her little friends at school.  One little girl is 3 days older than Abby, and they lie on the floor and talk to each other.  Another little girl close to Abby’s age started about a week ago.  When I came to pick her up, she was talking to her, telling her all about school, I guess.  What a helpful baby!  It’s so cute to listen to.  Check out David’s video on facebook of her talking if you haven’t already.  Adorable!
