I have two days off in a row, so I might as well get caught up on a little more blog-action, huh? When my days off are at different times in the week, I typically have more ‘stuff’ to do—laundry, cleaning, running errands, etc.—but when they’re together, I try to get it done all in one day. Of course, then I’m left with a “what should I do?” day! This is even more true this week as my OB appointment yesterday was at 8:20, so I had to get myself out of bed at a ‘decent’ hour. Now that I’m done with the first trimester, apparently I’m supposed to get some energy back. It seems that might be the case as I didn’t need to take multiple naps yesterday like I usually do when I get up relatively early!
We spent a week with David’s family, including some of his extended family, at Sunset Beach, NC. The Friday before we left I ‘graduated’ from my wonderful Get-You-Pregnant doctor and got to stop taking my lovely progesterone injections! (Wouldn’t all that have been fun to get through airport security?!?) Bones went on a vacation of her own starting Saturday evening, staying with a coworker of David’s mom.
We left our house at 3am (SICK) Sunday for our 5:20am flight to Atlanta, then arrived in Charleston sometime after 1. After a lovely 3 hour drive, we arrived at Sunset Beach! It was lovely and hot there, as expected. It rained every day, but it was about the time we’d have been heading back in anyway, so it didn’t cut out too much of our beach time!
How most days were spent.
lunch (and Lunch Fun) under the tent & umbrellas
David’s usual position.
Kari, Jo, Kristen, and me on our last day.
For some reason, we had lots of inflatable sea creatures. So pictures were taken with them. Meet Wally the Walrus and Sasha the Shark (she has eyelashes; that’s how you know she’s a girl)![]()
Along with spending one evening just waiting for and eating dinner (thanks for the 2 hour wait, Burro Loco), we went to Barefoot Landing and Callahan’s (shopping), mini golf, and How Sweet It Is (delicious ice cream where you can get 2 flavors on a “single”)!

The Helfinstine/Boysens during mini golf! Kristen and I won. We were playing a different way, where you were aiming for a high score.
Walking on the docks at Calabash while waiting to eat (Dockside = yummy seafood & hushpuppies!)
We also took exciting pictures at the gazebo by the pier.
On Saturday, we made the exciting 3 hour drive back to Charleston, stopping for delicious Chick-Fil-A on the way! This time we flew to Detroit, where we got to go through the creepy seizure-inducing tunnel, and then wait an extra hour (on top of our 3-ish hour layover) because the flight attendants weren’t there yet. We finally got home sometime around midnight, ‘ready’ to go back to class (David) and work (me) the next day!
